Chapter 2
Jesus has Power
~~~~~~~~
14. He has power to wipe away our tears
On the one side He is a mighty God but on the
other side He is a prayer answering God A God who sees our tears and pain. We read
in Genesis about Hagar. When Abraham kicked Hagar out from his house, when she was in the
midst of the wilderness, when she was in great pain and in great sorrow when she cried out
to God, then God heard her cry and answered her from the heavens. (Genesis 21:18)
He is a God of
compassion. He is not a God who sits on His throne looking and rejoicing over your pain.
But He is a God who is moved with compassion and who heals the broken hearted. He is a God
who knows your pain and sorrows and wants to wipe away all your tears.
When we look in
the life of Jesus, we see that whenever Jesus saw the multitude, He was moved with
compassion and He met the needs of the needy. We read in Matthew 9:36, "But when He
saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and
scattered, like sheep having no shepherd."
Also the Bible
says in Matthew 14:14, "And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was
moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick."
He was moved with
compassion for the sick and suffering. He was moved with compassion for mourners and He
wiped away the tears from their eyes. He filled their hearts with His unspeakable peace
and joy. He can do the same thing for you.
15.
He has power to give us Eternal Life
Only God can give us eternal life or assurance of heaven. No man can give us
assurance of heaven. When we read in the Bible we see that Jesus assured heaven for those
who believed on Him and for those who accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.
When Jesus
was in this world, He spoke very clearly about the two places where the soul goes after
the death of a person. He told a parable of Lazarus and a rich man. We see this parable in
Luke 16:20 29.
"But
there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,
"desiring
to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and
licked his sores.
"So it
was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man
also died and was buried.
"And
being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in
his bosom.
"Then
he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the
tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'
"But
Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and
likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
'And
besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want
to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'
"Then
he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,
'for I have
five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'
"Abraham
said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'
(Luke
16:20-29)
Jesus told
about a place of torment, a place of horror and also about another place where Lazarus was
in peace - a wonderful place. Jesus also made it clear that, the moment they died they,
went to two different places. Many wrongly think that each and every one will have access
to heaven as the all loving God will not allow anybody to go to hell fire. And some think
that when a person dies, he/she would be like a vegetable until the Day of Judgment and
that only after the Day of Judgment they will go either to heaven or hell
.
But the
Bible tells us a totally different story about life after death. Jesus said on several
occasions that He came to give us eternal life or everlasting life so that we will never
die. Of course Jesus was telling about our soul. One day our body will die but soul will
live forever and forever no matter whether in heaven or in hell. Death is not an end of
our life. Thats why Jesus said in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that
He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
everlasting life."
Jesus
purchased pardon for us on the cruel cross by shedding His precious blood to give us
assurance of eternal life. Jesus Himself said in, John 3:14-17,
"And
as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted
up,
"that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
"For
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life.
"For
God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through
Him might be saved.
(John
3:14-17)
Jesus has
power to give assurance of eternal life and He gave assurance to those who believed in Him
that they will not go before the Judgment seat of God because they have passed from death
into life and they will never taste death eternal death - as we read in Jesus said
in John 5:24, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him
who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from
death into life."
Again Jesus
said in John 3:36, "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does
not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." John
6:27, "Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to
everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His
seal on Him."
Today if
you have not yet received the assurance of getting into heaven, this is the day, make sure
where you are going because life is too short. Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14,
"Enter
by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction,
and there are many who go in by it."
"Because
narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who
find it."
(Matthew
7:13-14)
16. He has power to Redeem us
From the
beginning, God showed Himself as a redeeming God. Through out the history of Israel we see
that God gave Laws of atonement so that people could get pardon from their sins.
According to the Mosaic Law Israelites used to sacrifice year
after year repeatedly for the remission of their sins. The Bible says in Hebrew 10:2-4,
"For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once
purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a
reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats
could take away sins."
We
also see in the Old Testament that God is our redeemer. Psalms 78:35, "Then they
remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their Redeemer."
Also
the Bible says in Isaiah 41:14, "Fear not, you worm Jacob, You men of Israel! I will
help you," says the LORD And your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel."
Most
high God who is our redeemer is none other than Jesus who came down in the form of a man
to redeem us from our sins and sinful nature. When Jesus saw that the sacrifices of
animals could not take away the sins of people permanently, He came down in the form of a
man. He shed His precious blood on the cruel cross so that His precious blood would redeem
us from all our sins, all our guilt and make us holy. Jesus said in Matthew 26:28,
"For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission
of sins."
Jesus
said in Matthew 26:28, "For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for
many for the remission of sins."
And
also we read in Ephesians 1:7, "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the
forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace."
He
is the redeeming God. Today His pardon is available for us. No matter how big or how small
the sins you may have committed, He can wash you whiter than snow.
Yes,
Jesus proved that He is the very God who was from the beginning and there is nothing
impossible with Him. No matter how much pain and sufferings you may be going through,
Jesus can help you. When Jesus was in this world, He performed mighty miracles and showed
His great power and authority over everything. We read in Matthew 28:18, "And Jesus
came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on
earth."
